Vanilla Ice Holiday Block Party on Clematis 12-11-2010

Vanilla Ice held is annual holiday block party this past Saturday night on Clematis in West Palm Beach. Everyone was showing him love and the event supported the Marine's Toys for Tots. Along with Ice's performance, Elvis and The Value Meal Killah & The Snack Pack performed. Check out the full gallery over at New Times.

Graduation

My graduation isn't till March, but my friend Keith and a few of my friends graduated this past week. So for the occasion I had an idea of a cool head shot with Keith wearing his cap.  The caps that graduates wear just aren't as elegant as I thought. Nothing like wearing a square on top of your head. Anyways, congrats to everyone who graduated!

Metric at Collins Park 12-1-10

Metric played a free show in Collins Park right on the beach last week for Art Basel's Art Loves Music. I was able to catch the end of the show after photographing an event nearby at the Bass Museum. The majority of these were taken with me holding my camera above my head. If you haven't seen Metric I would highly recommend you do. They definitely give it their all.

Phoenix with The Waves at The Miami Fillmore 10-26-2010

Phoenix came to the Miami Fillmore a while back with The Waves. My review and photos are in the December Issue of SFL Music Magazine. As part of my review I described the story of the first two images.

"As Phoenix began what was their last song of their encore, “1901,” a red cord could be seen coming off the stage and into the crowd. Lead singer Thomas Mars made his way through the crowd to the center of the audience just in time for everyone to join in on the chorus of the song “Fold it, fold it, fold, fold it!” while probably the majority of the audience sang “fallen, fallen, fallen, fallen!”

The Story Behind the Picture: Dancegiving

Sometimes they say a picture can tell a thousand words right? Well, sometimes it is nice to hear the actual story behind how a picture is created. So I thought I would start a series of blog posts on the story behind the picture.The full gallery is over at New Times

For this image, I was covering Dancegiving, an all day electronic music festival in downtown Ft. Lauderdale at Revolution, The Green Room, and America's Backyard. I had already been at the event for 9 hours and the music was starting to blend together. The lighting was pretty rough all day, but I kept on trying different things to make it work. The headliner, Steve Aoki, was playing and after taking a few photos on stage I headed to the back area to take a little break. As I was talking to someone, one of the event's staff made his way to the stage entrance with an inflatable raft and told someone "this shit is about to get crazy". That's all I had to hear for I know Steve Aoki tends to crowd surf. I immediately headed to the crowd. I really wanted the epic shot of Steve Aoki crowd surfing in the inflatable raft (where did they get it?), but a few minutes later as I am packed in the middle of the crowd, out comes the raft......
